June 7, 2009-
Delaware, Ontario-
Jason Hathaway and Team 3 Red/E H R’s hopes for a triumphant homecoming to
Delaware Speedway on Saturday night were dashed early in the night when the
engine in the #3 Vortex Brake Pads Dodge expired.
This event was to
be the first time Hathaway had raced the track in a NASCAR Canadian Tire
Series car since joining Team 3 Red/E H R and running the NASCAR Canadian
Tire Series. It was at this track that Hathaway had won countless features
in the beginning of his career and broke numerous track records. With this
kind of history and success the Team had high hopes of a great weekend when
they got to the track on Saturday morning for the 200 lap race.
In practice the
Team was in top form recording consistent laps and was the top of the speed
charts most of the day. Hathaway had a great qualifying effort recording
the Team’s best start yet in the 2009 season of 5th in the 21 car
field.
In the main event
the quick pace of the NASCAR Canadian Tire series got underway as soon as
the green flagged dropped. Hathaway set up and moved around the 4th
place car in the field and settled into a consistent rhythm, hitting his
marks and running excellent lap times.
Crew Chief TJ
Martino called Hathaway in on lap 63 under caution for left side tires and
to top up the fuel anticipating some green flag running ahead. The Team
performed well on their pit stop and sent him back out onto the track in the
16th spot. By lap 76 Hathaway had made his way carefully back up
through the pack and was running 12th.
It was on lap 80
when Hathaway and the Team’s hopes of an excellent finish came to a grinding
halt. Hathaway reported into the crew that had lost power and was coming
into the pits. The Team went under the hood of the car and determined that
the motor had expired and were forced to call it a night.
A dejected Jason
Hathaway reluctantly climbed out of his racing machine. “This is a real
disappointment for the #3 VORTEX Brake Pads team. We were looking
forward to putting on a great show for our sponsors, our fans and most of
all our Team. The guys on this team worked hard all winter and each and
every week to get here and this not the way we wanted to leave the track
tonight. We had a great car and this was definitely our night to win.”
This coming
weekend, June 13th & 14th, the Team will be at Mosport
International Raceway for their first of four road course events on the 2009
NCTS schedule.
Team 3 Red/EHR is partnered with Vortex Brake Pads
from OE Quality Friction Inc., Snap-On Tools
Napoleon Grills and Fireplaces Advantex Freight Forwarders, Castrol,
Fast Eddie Racewear, Dayco Belts & Hoses, Choko Motorsport Apparel and
Praxair.
July 11 was a
rainout, and the rain continued overnight, but Sunday July 12, the track was
ready and so was Team Red 3. After practice runs and qualification laps,
Jason started # 16, but as the caution-filled race progressed, he pitted
well and worked up to fourth place. An incident and a lap penalty resulted
in an eighth place finish, but once again, the team was in the top 10. Jason
is looking forward to improving his standing in the Western Canada series
underway now. Click

August
9, 2009- Bowmanville, Ontario-
The Vortex Brake Pads 200 sponsored by Team 3 Red /Ed Hakonson Racing partner
Vortex Brake Pads proved to be a busy night for Jason Hathaway and his #3
Vortex Brake Pads Dodge on Saturday night. Hathaway did manage to
muscle his car to the end to record the Teams 8th top 10 finish.
The
Team made some adjustments to the set up of the race car during practice and
thought they had a great set up going into qualifying and the race. During his
qualifying effort Hathaway made an improvement from his practice times and
recorded a 12th place starting position in the 21 car field.
With rain hanging in the air the aim for the 200 lap event was to get to
the front as soon as possible and gain track position in case the skies opened
up with the expected showers.
An
ill handling race car prevented Hathaway from getting into his routine and
rhythm in the 200 lap event. Just before the half way point Team 3 Red/Ed
Hakonson Racing crew chief TJ Martino called the #3 Snap on Tools Dodge into the
pits to the attention of the crew members for fuel. Still fighting a tight race
car Hathaway was lapped by the leaders on lap 139. On the caution on lap 147 TJ
Martino brought him in again for much needed right side tires and a chassis
adjustment.
With
the adjustment and brand new racing tires, Hathaway’s times picked up
dramatically and at several times during the last 50 laps of the race Hathaway
was the fastest car on the race track. The excellent lap times posted by
Hathaway were faster than the leaders and when the caution flew on lap183 he
received the “Lucky Dog” award, putting him back on the lead lap of the race.
Hathaway made his charge toward the front off the restart with 15 laps left in
the race. With lap traffic mixing it up with the lead lap cars as the laps
wound out, Hathaway was not able to get as far up the running order as he
wished, but finished a hard fought 9th.
“This was a busy night for me tonight in the car. The car didn’t handle like we
wanted and it was a handful out there. The tires and chassis adjustment helped
quite a bit and we earned our lap back. I just simply ran out of laps to get
towards the front with the lap traffic between us and the lead pack in our way.
Thank you to our great partner Vortex Brake Pads for sponsoring tonight’s race.
We appreciate all that they do for our Team as well as helping to sponsor the
race tonight.” said a hot Jason Hathaway after climbing out of his racing
machine after the race.
Team
3 Red/Ed Hakonson Racing will continue on to their 9th stop on the
2009 NASCAR Canadian Tire schedule this coming weekend at Grand Prix de Trois
Rivieries in Quebec on Sunday August 16, 2009.

3 Red/EHR is partnered with Snap-on Tools, Vortex Brake Pads, Napoleon Grills
and Fireplaces, Advantex Freight Forwarders, Castrol, Super 8 Motels, Fast Eddie
